Flight time
The flight from Auckland to Mexico takes roughly 18 hours with a stopover. A long flight is a small price to pay for the warmth and vibrancy of a holiday like this.
Mexico personifies the word vibrant... a riot of colour, culture and warmth everywhere you go.
Wander through the ancient ruins of Chichén Itzá or Palenque, where you can almost hear whispers of past civilisations. Sink your toes into Tulum’s white sands, snorkel in turquoise cenotes, or throw yourself into the joyful chaos of Mexico City’s markets and plazas.
Food is everything here... from the smoky spice of tacos al pastor to the citrusy freshness of ceviche and the rich, chocolatey depths of mole, every bite feels like a celebration.
But Mexico isn’t just about food and history, it’s music, murals and magic in the everyday. Mariachi bands serenade in the streets, handcrafts dazzle in every colour imaginable, and the warmth of the people is something you’ll carry home with you.
Mexico will wrap you up in a giant hug!

December to April is Mexico’s dry season, perfect for outdoor adventures. With sunny weather it’s the ideal time to enjoy nature and the beaches - but be prepared for party crowds
Mexico is 17–19 hours behind New Zealand due to daylight saving in both countries and regional differences. You'll be a bit jet lagged but the spirit of the lovely locals will help distract your tired brain
You
know how some people collect handbags or shoes, well I have a love of
collecting passport stamps! I developed a bit of a passion for adventure travel
since working in the States at a summer camp in my early 20’s. I have travelled
to over 40 countries, doing everything from eating scorpions in China,
snorkelling the Silfra fissure in Iceland, to skydiving in Namibia.

I have been in the travel industry since 1987 as a tour leader, travel advisor, traveler visiting the globe, and now Owner Operator of House of Travel Dunedin City.
My travels have encompassed 105 countries initially using all forms of transport from a double decker bus around Europe to rickshaws in Asia to horses in the Middle East and dugout canoes in Central Africa with camels, elephants, donkeys and bicycles in-between.
I am more than willing to travel in a lot more comfort these days visiting the Pacific, Myanmar, India, Vietnam, Ireland, China, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, USA, Cayman Islands, Zimbabwe, Turkiye and Malta in recent years.
I believe the transition is similar for people of my generation who still yearn to visit anywhere and everywhere but enjoy a bit, or a lot, more luxury. As such I have developed an in-depth knowledge of the whole spectrum of travel options and regularly come up with solutions to the most complex of travel plans.

Why I love travel:
Travelling takes us out of our comfort zone and inspires us to experience new things that we otherwise wouldn't in our normal day to day lives. It enriches your life from meeting new people from all walks of life, trying new food from different corners of the world, and humbles you to appreciate the small things in life.
